Forskning i HSP

Forskning i høj sensitivitet (HSP) har udviklet sig markant de seneste år og viser, at sensitivitet rummer langt mere end blot sårbarhed. Studier peger på, at høj sensitive personer ofte har et udpræget følelsesliv, stærk empati og en evne til at opfatte nuancer i omgivelserne, som andre let overser. De bearbejder indtryk grundigere og reagerer ofte mere intenst – ikke kun på negative, men også på positive oplevelser.

Denne side samler udvalgt og aktuel forskning om HSP og giver indsigt i, hvordan sensitivitet påvirker trivsel, relationer og livsudfoldelse – og hvordan vi som samfund og medmennesker kan skabe rum for, at sensitivitet kan blive en ressource.

HSP – Highly Sensitive Person

Det var den amerikanske psykolog Elaine Aron, der i midten af 1990’erne gjorde begrebet Highly sensitive person (HSP) kendt. Hun var selv mere fintfølende end andre, hvilket gav hende en del udfordringer. Elaine Aron gav sig derfor til at forske i sensitivitet. Hun fandt her ud af, at det var forbundet med nervesystemet – at man som sensitiv opfanger og bearbejder flere indtryk på en dybere måde end andre.

Elaine Arons tidligere forskning viste, at 20 procent af jordens befolkning var født mere sensitive end andre. Nyere undersøgelser viser imidlertid, at det er mere korrekt at se 25-30 procent som høj sensitive, 40-50 procent som medium sensitive og 25-30 procent som lav sensitive. (Aeron & Aeron, 1997), (Lionetti et. al. 2018).

Neurologiske undersøgelser har vist, at høj sensitive personer ofte har øget aktivitet i hjernens centre for følelsesmæssig bearbejdning og empati. Det betyder, at de i højere grad mærker både egne og andres følelser, og at de ofte reflekterer dybt over sociale og etiske spørgsmål. Denne dybdegående opfattelsesevne gør dem modtagelige over for overstimulering i travle miljøer, men også særligt disponerede for fordybelse, kreativitet og social forståelse. (Acevedo et al., 2021; Acevedo et al., 2014; )

Samtidig understreger nyere forskning, at sensitivitet ikke kun er medfødt. Miljømæssige faktorer spiller en afgørende rolle for, hvordan sensitivitet udvikler sig – og for om den kommer til udtryk som en sårbarhed eller som en styrke. I trygge og støttende omgivelser kan høj sensitivitet være en kilde til både indsigtsfuldhed og livskvalitet (Assary et al., 2020)
